I first read Interview with the Vampire in high school, and dove into the newly released The Vampire Lestat right after. Like many, the character of Lestat really resonated with me. In all honesty, I feel that Lestat is the vampire I compare all other vampires to. He is my “go to” for the genre.
I mean, seriously, Edward is just a pathetic little wuss compared to the Prince of Vampires. And, I’ll go ahead and say it, I thought Tom Cruise did a solid job in the movie. His level of mania was much better than Pattinson’s mopey turn. Don’t be hatin’.
While I genuinely enjoyed Rice’s vampire books, I did get a bit burned out after Memnoch The Devil. I don’t know, perhaps I just wasn’t in the same place in my life. But, a few years ago Anne jumped back to Lestat in Prince Lestat, returning the immortal Brat to the forefront of pop-culture.
And now, she’s doing it again with Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis. Personally, I couldn’t be happier. And, evidently, same for a lot of people as is it became a NYT Bestseller on day one.
Anne has long been a favorite of mine, and I am proudly one of the “People of the Page” her enormously popular facebook page. Her book, The Witching Hour, specifically the character of Michael, had a profound impact on my life, causing me to switch away from mechanical work and pursue a civil engineering degree, a decision I have never regretted.
As part of the promotional push for her latest release, she has done interviews for Entertainment, and others. But, the best of them, in my humble opinion, is the podcast she did with Hank Garner, linked below.

Prince Lestat And The Realm Of Atlantis
“A few pages in, I was sold . . . Lestat always felt real to me to a somewhat discomforting degree . . . Beautiful . . . Suave, complex . . . I will always be so grateful that Anne has given me another opportunity to follow the adventures of this very intriguing vampire, who is much more than just a one-dimensional caricature.”
